PAYING TO CO-WRITE
Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
An Orthodontist from Boise, Idaho, after returning from the recent "Super-Duper Hit Songwriter Retreat" reflects...
"Wow! What a week-end! Man, those guys were so cool! To think that THEY would even consider writing a song with me! I mean, I know I'm just a beginner, but they didn't make me feel like one! They said my song ideas were pretty good, and with a little work, there might be some Hit Songs in there! Frankly, I don't remember too much about our co-writing sessions, everything happened so fast. There wasn't much teaching going on, but how could there be? We were all so busy just having fun! All I do know is I have four songs with my name on them right next to some of the biggest names in the Biz! I admit I don't know much about the music business, but they told me they would play my (sorry, our) songs for some important people who could 'Make things happen!'. How exciting is that!"
"The place we were at was awesome! They had mini-golf, a water-slide, and hiking. The meals were great, the accommodations great- what about all those Gold Records on the walls! That night when all the Pro's played and sang; it was like listening to the radio only better! They all could play the guitar so well, too, and sing! They told me I didn't need to learn an instrument in order to be a hit songwriter. But it seemed to help them, a lot!"
"I thought Songwriters had to struggle for years sacrificing for their craft; waiting tables, doing whatever it took to make time to improve their writing, in the hopes that by "paying dues" they earned the opportunity to write with an accomplished peer. Heck, it only cost me $11,000.00!"
